As I thought about what song to write about today, I tried to think of he different songs that had touched me recently. My little sister and I frequently use one iPod for the car ride to church on Sunday mornings. So we are always skipping around and looking for our favorite songs. Recenly she wanted to listen to "You Are More", I confess that I hadn't listened to much of Tenth Avenue North's latest CD. However, she played it. As I listened to the lyrics, I thought of all the mistakes I have made.
They don't define who I am. They may be a part of me, but they don't define me. When you look past the mistakes someone makes and love them for who they are, flaws and all, then you're telling them in your own way that they are more than what they think. They don't have to be defined by their mistakes, they don't have to keep making the same choices either. More importantly, you're telling them that no matter what they've done, whatever they're doing currently, you're going to be there for them.
It's another way of demonstrating the love the God has for all of us. He loves us no matter our flaws, no matter what we go through, and throughout all our doubts and insecurities. He will be there for us because He knows that we are more than anything else in the world. What we do doesn't have to define us. We let it define us because that's all we can see. But it's not who we are. We are more. Don't let Satan keep on telling you that you are worthless, that you can never be anything else. You already have a better future. You already have a better place. It's in Christ.
You Are More: Tenth Avenue North (Album: The Light Meets the Dark)
There's a girl in the corner
With tear stains on her eyes
From the places she's wandered
And the shame she can't hide
She says, "How did I get here?
I'm not who I once was.
And I'm crippled by the fear
That I've fallen too far to love"
But don't you know who you are,
What's been done for you?
Yeah don't you know who you are?
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
Well she tries to believe it
That she's been given new life
But she can't shake the feeling
That it's not true tonight
She knows all the answers
And she's rehearsed all the lines
And so she'll try to do better
But then she's too weak to try
But don't you know who you are?
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
'Cause this is not about what you've done,
But what's been done for you.
This is not about where you've been,
But where your brokenness brings you to
This is not about what you feel,
But what He felt to forgive you,
And what He felt to make you loved.
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
You've been remade
You've been remade.
You've been remade.
You've been remade
